Southend 100 - Newbury Blues 0
Southend Centurions

Southend move back to second place in National 2 South after inflicting a crushing defeat on hapless Newbury Blues. This record breaking display from the team was impressive. Not only a century of points but a blank sheet against.

After only eight minutes Andrew Frost ran in the first of his three tries. Another hat trick to add to last weeks and fifteen points out of his match contribution of thirty four. He now heads the league in four sections, tries scored 11, penalties 15, conversions, 25 and total points 150.

Once the floodgates opened Newbury were unable to stem the attacks that poured over them in waves. Six converted tries and a penalty in the first half. Two from Frost, one from Captain Chris Green one each for Chris Vaughan and Sonny Gay and another for Dan Johnson all added up to 45 0 at the break.

Southend started the second half as they had finished the first, this time with a try from full back Sid Hoult. Two minutes later Frost followed up with his third then Southend's other winger Perry Sansom weighed in. Newbury had no answer and the tries kept coming, Mike Stanley, playing for the second week at fly half, scored three try's in ten minutes, Dan Johnson scored his second and Mark Billings who came on for Frost scored two of his own.

Only five of the nine second half tries were converted but it all added up to 100 0. A record for the club since joining the National Leagues nine years ago and in the living memory of the luminaries who were there to witness this great performance.

Commiserations to Newbury who are enduring a very tough time at the moment but who never stopped trying.
